EXPLORE THE RICH HERITAGE OF THE FULLERTON HOTEL SYDNEY

Located at 1 Martin Place, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is housed within the historic General Post Office building in the heart of Sydney.

The General Post Office (GPO) building represents an exceptional time in both Sydney’s and Australia’s history. Built on a grand scale under the guidance of Colonial Architect James Barnet, the GPO building has been regarded as one of the most well-known landmarks in the heart of the city since the 19th century.

Inspired by the style of the Victorian Italian Renaissance, the heritage-listed site was mainly constructed from local Sydney sandstone, and is adorned with intricate sculptures and a marble statue of Queen Victoria.

For more than 70 years, the GPO’s telegraph operating room was the hub of Sydney’s links with the rest of the world. The Heritage Ballroom used to be home to the first public telephone exchange in 1882.

The Hotel cares deeply about its heritage and its responsibility as custodians of the GPO building, blending the property's old-world charm with the modern sophistication of a five-star hotel. The Fullerton Hotel Sydney undertook a restoration project of the GPO Building in 2019. The project involved a team of more than 30 stonemasons who spent nine months and more than 38,400 hours cleaning the intricate stonework of the facade.

Today, guests can discover the timeless character and celebrated service of The Fullerton Hotel Sydney.
